Transformer Buchholz Relay
Transformer Buchholz Relay is a sort of oil as well as gas actuated protection relay universally employed on all oil immersed transformers rendered with rating more than 500 kVA. It is applicable for the protection of transformers from the fractures occurring inside the transformer. Short circuit faults such as incipient winding faults, inter turn faults, and core faults may fall out due to the impulse failure of the insulating oil or plainly the transformer oil. The relay can detect such faults and close the alarm circuit. The relay relies on the fact that the electrical break occurred inside the transformer tank is attended by the generation of gas. Transformer Buchholz Relay is functional as a safety device that is generally employed in large oil penetrated transformers.
